Meyer Zoysia

Meyer zoysia is a premium lawn grass. In recent years, Meyer Z-52 zoysia has grown in popularity as a fairway and tee grass. Golf course superintendent's find Meyer Z-52 zoysia easy to manage due to low water requirements, superior cold tolerance, and less mowing.

It thrives in the transition zone where hot summers damage cool season turf. To the golfer, Meyer Z-52 zoysia's uniformity coupled with its dense growth makes for an excellent lie for the golf ball, even while dormant.

Meyer Zoysia Grass is an improved strain of Zoysia japonica and has a medium green color and wide blade. It has the fastest spring greenup and best cold tolerance. Meyer is slow to become established and must be propagated by sod or sprigs. Once established it develops a very dense turf, demonstrates good cold tolerant and grows well in partial shade. On the grass areas surrounding bunkers, turf managers, golf course architects, and builders are increasingly ringing sand bunkers with Meyer Zoysia Grass. Sodding may be performed year-round in U.S.D.A. Plant Hardiness Zone 7 or any warmer zone. Sprigs should not be planted before soil temperature is above 65 F. Planting too early may retard development of a turf and extend the critical establishment period several weeks.
